Alfa Romeo - What Is the Soul of Man?

The premise being that when the Alfa Romeo Brera drives past, it invokes such deep emotion in its onlookers that they can’t help but express this via the medium of dance. Which, conceptually, could raise eyebrows, but actually turned out to be surprisingly cool.

The creative team had sourced this extraordinary track from the, little known to me but, hugely influential gospel singer Sister Rosetta Tharpe, and were hoping for us to lift the music into this century. I created the most sympathetic remix I could muster, using an enhanced but scratchy old breakbeat, double-layered bassline, some tasteful sample repetition and zero massive scratch samples (which was a tall order for me at the time). I’m still proud of the simplicity of the soundtrack and how neatly it sits with the images. Unsure if the car was any good though. Do let me know as I will undoubtedly acquire one for posterity.
